“But when fall comes, kicking summer out on its treacherous ass as it always does one day sometime after the midpoint of September, it stays awhile like an old friend that you have missed. It settles in the way an old friend will settle into your favorite chair and take out his pipe and light it and then fill the afternoon with stories of places he has been and things he has done since last he saw you.”
―
Stephen King, ’Salem’s Lot
Hello Readers,
Welcome to Fall! I wish it felt more like fall but I know cooler temperatures are coming. Fall is my favorite season. I love Halloween and Thanksgiving, I got married in the fall, was born in the fall, and have more boots than any one person needs. I promise to share some good fall pictures from Smith Mountain Lake in the coming weeks.
It has been a rough couple of weeks for my family. We were all sick but somehow I'm the only one who tested positive for COVID. I never had it before and it is not something I hope to do again any time soon. The rest of my family either were over it before we tested or had something else altogether. But, we are all finally feeling better.
Due to the whole house being sick, I have not made a lot of progress on Benny and Lexie. Their story needs to be told and I plan on increasing my efforts over the next couple of weeks. I may even be able to provide a sample in the next edition of The Hoot. The plan is to release Something to Fight For (Crossroad Series, Book 2) on February 14, 2025.
I'm keeping the newsletter short today. The hubby and I are celebrating our 20th anniversary which was on September 18 but due to sickness all plans got postponed. I hope all of you have a great start to Fall and enjoy the weekend!

A Drive More Dangerous by Rebekah Dodson
Katrina Marcois loved the nightlife a little too much.
As the daughter of one of the most famous detective agencies in the world, Katrina soaked up every piece of paparazzi glory she could find. She was a jet setter, a trend setter, and the face of modeling all of Europe. But after recovering from a kidnapping and deadly poison from a Russian billionaire, Katrina’s ready to start a new life, away from the cameras, fame, and stress of her family legacy.
Enrolling in the prestigious Paris Culinary Academy under the tutelage of the famous 5-star chef Jamison Artee wasn’t easy, but Katrina is determined to prove to Artee she has what it takes. That is, until a series of mysterious accidents lead Katrina into the lap of the world’s most famous and sexiest Grand Prix driver, Sebastian Rivera.
Will Katrina be able to expose his crimes, or will her sexy sleuthing unravel everything she holds dear?
Where It All Started (Something to Hope For Prequel)
Where It All Started is going on a hiatus, so I can focus on telling the story of Benny and Lexie. You can read the previous installments at the links below and I promise to finish the story. It is only on hold. I always had hoped to turn it into a novella and publish it and this has now become the plan. It will be available as a free prequel to Something to Hope For.
Where It All Started is the story of the older generation of Crossroads - Joe, Laura, Ruby, Rob, Tom, Jenny, Patrick and Becca. Please keep in mind, this is a raw story that has not been professionally edited. Please be forgiving of any small mistakes.
If you missed Part 1, you can catch up here, The Hoot 21 June 2024.
If you missed Part 2, you can catch up here, The Hoot 21 July 2024.
If you missed Part 3, you can catch up here, The Hoot 18 August 2024.
